What is Foul Folk?
Foul Folk is a Kansas City area musical comedy collective. The potty-mouthed ensemble went public in June 2020 with a series of comedy music videos on YouTube, including the unfortunately topical "Fuck You Coronafuckingvirus" (above photo). For the socially-distanced video shoot we were graced with the presence of some good friends in KC the spring of 2020. Left to right: Aurelia Butterschmidt, Joe Folk, Das Knox, Jeremy Folk, Madame Queen, Paolla Bracho, Shane Folk and Hazel Iris.
Who is Foul Folk?
Foul Folk is led by Joe Folk (far left) and Shane Folk (third from left), who write and record the project's original music and also script and oversee video production. They're regularly joined in music videos and faux commercials by fearless and hilarious collaborator Jeremy Folk (behind the drum kit) - a scene-stealer extraordinaire, it's implausible to imagine a Foul Folk video without him.
Frequent contributor Aurelia Butterschmidt lends her wonderful acting, voice and production skills to many of the projects, and for that, we're very grateful.
We're also quite lucky to have the talents of Hazel Iris on reserve (that's her dancing in the photo above for the video "Jerk It Till You Drop"). We're trying to figure a way to have her dance in every video - you're welcome!
What's next for Foul Folk?
We're currently in pre-production for the next two videos for our YouTube video channel (titles to be announced, tentative release date: July 2020).
With no shortage of songs at the ready, the plan is to regularly add videos to the channel as quickly as we're able. With the exception of "Fuck You Coronafuckingvirus," the songs that are currently being featured in videos were tracked by the band and then mixed and mastered by aural wizard and KC studio legend Duane Trower (Season to Risk, Ex Acrobat) at Weights & Measures Soundlab in Kansas City, MO.
Plans for an online acoustic performance are in the works. And of course, when lifeshit turns back to normal, we'll look forward to getting out in public with our fellow humans and play our first live show as Foul Folk. See you then!
